Preparation Before Onboarding a Business App number

Meta now supports "Coexistence", allowing you to run the WhatsApp Business App and WhatsApp Cloud API side by side. This newly launched feature — though still under active development — may contain occasional bugs, isn’t supported in all countries, and has a few limitations compared with using the Cloud API alone. If your business isn’t already using the Business App extensively, we recommend onboarding a brand-new number directly to the Cloud API for the smoothest experience.

💡 Please note that WhatsApp Coexistence is available only to businesses actively using the WhatsApp Business App, based on Meta’s review of account age and messaging quality.

Before onboarding a Business App number, please ensure you have the following items prepared:

1. Prepare a Meta Business Account

You can either create a new Meta Business Account or connect an existing one during the Embedded Signup process. Please choose your Business Manager wisely—once your number is registered, you cannot change it.

💡 Important: The Business Manager must be owned by the company sending messages. Adding users from other organizations can lead to your Business Manager being blocked. In Business Manager Settings > Business Info, be sure to enter all of the following under your Business Manager profile:

  • Legal Name of your company
  • Business Address
  • Website URL
  • Phone Number you will use for messaging

Incomplete or inaccurate information may prevent successful registration.

2. Pre‑Onboarding Checklist

Before you begin, please ensure:

  1. You’re already actively using the WhatsApp Business App with this number for at least 7 days.

  2. WhatsApp Business App is version 2.24.17 or later.

  3. Your business must not be registered in a currently unsupported country (as listed here).
